
FAQ's for LearnWrite
- 1. What is the fee structure?
- The fees are in line with other remedial schools in the area. Payments are due monthly in advance for 12 months of the year. There is also a non refundable enrolment fee. In addition there is a nominal charge for a security guard. Fees are available on request.
- 2. What further costs are there?
- Stationery (list provided).
- Text books (list provided).
- The occasional educational outing or activity.
- 3. What curriculum does LearnWrite follow?
- The Gauteng Department of Education Revised National Curriculum.
- 4. What are the tutoring hours?
- Grade 1 is from 8:00 to 12:30 with an optional waiting class until 13:00.
- Grade 2 to 9 are from 8:00 to 13:00 Monday to Thursday. We still close at 12:00 on Fridays.
- 5. How are the learners assessed?
- Continual evaluation is ongoing. Cycle tests are set in term 1 and 3 and exams are set mid year and end of year.
- 6. What does the centre consist of?
- Two properties adjacent to one another housing Grades 1-3 are in the Rondawel Road property and Grades 4-9 are in the Villa Street property. An office, computer room and two therapy rooms are also on the property. Each property has its own play area.
- 7. Are the tutors qualified?
- All tutors have either many years experience or are remedially trained.
- There is also a consulting psychologist who assists with counseling and remedial work.
- 8. When do learners return to the mainstream?
- Generally after two years or when they are ready, depending on the learner's individual needs.
- 9. Where would they mainstream to?
- To a system that the tutors feel would suit the learners' individual needs. There is a list of options available at the office.
General
- Additional remediation programs are included during the morning. For example; computer reading and spelling, balance board therapy, audioblox therapy, the S.O.I. remediation programme and more.
- There is no set uniform. Appropriate clothing is, however, required.
- A set timetable is followed
- There is one break of 20 minutes for the seniors and two breaks of approximately 15 minutes for the juniors. They also have 10 minutes for lunch.
- A small tuck shop operates daily.
- There is an independently run after care.
